07 May.

07 May.
A great night's sleep at Bert's, probably my best, yet.

Camo, Penguin, Tweaker, Cosmo and I had breakfast at Bert's (pictured), then Tracy shuttled all but Cosmo and me to the AT trailhead to continue north. It was a perfect morning for the climb to the ridge, cool with some clouds. Tracy shuttled Cosmo to Bake Oven Knob to slackpack north. I showered, walked to the post office to pick up my bounce box, then watched A Beautiful Mind on DVD while exchanging items in the box (I needed my backup trash bag pack liner, a few zip lock snack bags, printed AWOL guide pages for the next week, etc.). I also back flushed my water filter and cleaned my bivy sack zipper. I repacked items in a new bounce box, delivered to the post office, then stopped by Claude's ice cream shoppe for a large hot fudge sundae (only trying to keep my calorie intake up for the trail, you understand).

I walked uphill to view the local neighborhood homes (pictures), which were quite eclectic but overall very neat and well-kept, and also visited three cemeteries along the way with many headstones dating to the mid-1800's (picture).

I wound my way back to the main road through town and stopped by Subway for an early dinner, returning to the hostel.

Cosmo returned, and we were joined by O-Positive, Wildfire (a Forest Service firefighter from Arlington VA), and Bobkat (Camo recommended the hostel to him).

I visited the Country Harvest grocery store with Wildfire and put baby carrots, tart apple slices, swiss cheese, and Crystal Lite lemonade drink mix in the bag, hoping to finish the perishables during the hike to Leroy Smith shelter on Tuesday.

After some evening conversation with Cosmo, I'm now sacking out. Breakast of Biscuits and gravy at Bert's in the morning, then back on the trail north.

Not sure when I can post again. Thanks for following!
